About Shape of Face

Shape of Face works out your face shape from a photo, entirely on your device, and turns the result into hairstyle, beard, and glasses suggestions with a reason for each one. It was built to answer one question plainly — what shape is your face, and what does that suggest for styling — without collecting your photos or requiring an account.

How this tool works

When you take or upload a photo, this site detects 478 points on your face using MediaPipe Face Landmarker — both the model file and the JavaScript and WebAssembly code that runs it are published by Google under the Apache License 2.0. All of that runs inside your browser — the photo and the points calculated from it never leave your device.

If you upload a HEIC photo, the format many phones save photos in, and your browser can't open it directly, this site loads an image decoder (about 2 MB) called libheif-js to convert it. This only happens for HEIC files, and only when needed — details and its license are in the credits below.

It is served unmodified as a separate file, loaded only when needed, and this site uses only its public decoding interface, so it can be replaced with another build of the same version.
